Scalable Video Coding versus Multiple Description Coding
Two modes of video coding schemes exist for media prone to errors: scalable video coding and multiple description coding. We propose an information theory based study to understand the relationship between the two approaches.
Efficient Channel Coding for Wireless Broadcasting
Recently, a new channel coding scheme has been proposed for multicast operations over the Internet. The so-called fountain codes have been designed for efficient multicasting of FTP traffic. The time-varying nature of the wireless channel will naturally require significant modifications in the code design. We propose to study the feasibility of fountain codes for broadcasting over the wireless channel. A joint scalable video coding-fountain coding idea will be studied on this front.
