Bio_RemM

Bio-RemM is a self-healing bio-based mortar where microorganisms used to remediate surface cracks.

The cracks on mortar surface could be sealed with the biogenic CaCO3 when microorganisms were introduced with their growth medium including corn steep liquor and urea. With this remediation, the water absorption capacity of the so-called self- healed mortar decreased.

At its current stage, our research team aims to provider this admixture as a powder/aggregate form additive to ease the use in the field and to improve the robustness of the microorganisms and their self-healing ability to seal micro-cracks.
