Graduate Student Research Assistantship in Healthcare Operations Modelling and Optimization is Available
I am conducting a search to find a Research Assistant who will participate in a challenging research project on operating room scheduling which is funded by a TUBITAK CAREER grant (in collaboration with Prof. Refik Gullu from Bogazici University). This project aims to develop state of the art scheduling solutions for the operating rooms, which is the most critical unit of a hospital. In collaboration with local hospitals in Turkey, we aim to build models that incorporate operational and temporal factors that affect uncertain surgery durations and to solve these models to generate managerial insights for the medical practitioners. These solutions will help the patients, medical doctors, and hospital administration to have higher satisfaction from the operating room schedules.
The potential candidate preferably should have a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering or is pursuing a graduate degree in Industrial Engineering or Operations Management, however advanced industrial engineering seniors are also encouraged to apply. A strong background in simulation and/or stochastic optimization would be a strong advantage. Responsibilities include creating mathematical and simulation models for operating room scheduling problems and finding solutions via optimization and/or heuristics. Programming skills is desired, but not required. The candidate is expected to take initiative, show creativity, and be able to communicate effectively in English.
Commencing immediately, this position is for one year with the possibility of renewal based upon performance. The monthly stipend is highly competitive and will be adjusted based on the candidate’s experience. This RA will be able to participate EU-wide trainings and workshops via the European collaborations of the project.
Interested applicants should e-mail their CV (including relevant coursework) to me at enis.kayis@ozyegin.edu.tr with their availability for work in the near term.
