Today was the last day for courses and the Spring 2019 semester is finally over. I really thank my students for this semester and looking forward to meeting them again in other CE courses!

As being guest-editors in the journal of “Sustainability”,  Dr. Deniz,  Dr. Hariri-Ardebili (from Univ. of Colorado-Boulder), and Dr. Farokhnia (from Colorado State University) are working on a special issue “Sustainability and Resiliency under Multi-Hazards”. This is a journal indexed by SCI-expanded, with an impact factor of  2.075.  For more information, please see the link below. All colleagues […]

Starting in Fall 2018, two students Yasamin Moaiyedfar (MS, 2020) and Hasan Numan Olmez (MS, 2020) joined Dr. Deniz’s research group  to pursue their MS degree in Structural Engineering at Ozyegin University. Under Dr. Deniz’s supervision, Yasamin is currently working on detailed FE models and analyses of structural masonry and concrete walls subjected to flood actions. Hasan is investigating […]

Dr. Derya Deniz was awarded a two year – research grant by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey ( TUBITAK / BIDEB-2232 Research Grant Program ) and serves as the PI for the research project “ Flood Damage, Economical Loss and Functionality Models for Critical Industrial Structures in Turkey”,  supported for two years between August 2018 and […]

Two abstracts, titled  “Flood Performance and Dislocation Assessment for Lumberton Homes after Hurricane Matthew” and “Functionality Assessment for Homes in Boulder, Colorado following the September, 2013 Flood”,  have been accepted to present at the 13th International Conference on Applications of Statistics and Probability in Civil Engineering (ICASP13). The conference will be held at Seoul National University (Seoul, […]

A journal paper entitled “Energy-based sidesway collapse fragilities for ductile structural frames under earthquake loadings” has been recently published in Engineering Structures: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.engstruct.2018.07.019 Abstract: In assessing the likelihood of structural collapse under strong earthquake motions, uncertainties in structural properties and ground motions can be incorporated by use of a probabilistic analysis framework in conjunction with analysis […]

A multi-disciplinary team from the CSU-led Center for Risk-Based Community Resilience Planning, including Dr. Derya Deniz from Ozyegin University, have given three presentations at the 2018 Natural Hazard workshop about their recent field studies conducted to Lumberton, North Carolina after the 2016 Hurricane Matthew: “Household Dislocation following Hurricane Matthew: An Interdisciplinary Study of Flood Hazards and Social Vulnerability“ […]

Dr. Deniz has recently attended the ASCE Engineering Mechanics Institute Conference (EMI), held at Michigan Institute Technology (MIT), to present about “Empirical and Analytical Assessment Models for Flood Damage and Loss on the Residential Building Structures”.  ABSTRACT: Reliable and accurate estimates of losses to civil infrastructures and community due to extreme hazards of uncertain magnitude […]
